Ingredients:

  1. Pearl (Bajra) millet flour – 1 cup (200 grams)
  2. Water – 1/2 cup
  3. Chopped onion – 1/4 cup
  4. Chopped vegetables (Carrot, Beans, Cabbage, Green Peas) – 3/4 cup
  5. Turmeric powder – 1 pinch
  6. Red Chilli powder – 1/4 teaspoon
  7. Garam masala powder – 1/4 teaspoon
  8. Cumin seeds – 1/4 teaspoon
  9. Sesame Oil – 1 teaspoon
  10. Rock salt – as per taste

Method:

  1. First dry roast the millet flour for 7 to 8 minutes until nice aroma comes out. Let it cool down for sometime.
  2. Chop Onion, Carrot, Beans & Cabbage. In a pan, pour oil and let it become hot. Add Cumin seeds. Once it crackles, add Onion and sauté for few minutes. Add Turmeric powder, Red chilli powder, Garam masala powder, Rock salt and sauté for a minute. Then add all the vegetables including Green Peas and sauté them for a while. Cover it with a lid and let it cook for few more minutes. When it becomes dry, turn-off the flame and let it cool down for few minutes.
  3. Then transfer the vegetable masala to the millet flour bowl. Add little salt to this flour as well and fluff it with a spoon.
  4. Boil water to the rolling state and pour it in the flour & vegetable mixture. Use a ladle to mix the ingredients and make a fine dough. Make small sized balls. Steam the dumplings for 15 to 20 minutes using a Idli steaming pot. To check the consistency, wet your fingers and touch the dumpling. If the flour does not stick to the fingers, turn-off the flame. Remove the dumplings from the steaming plate. Let it cool down for a while. Serve it in a bowl along with any sprouted gram gravies or chutney.

Note:

  • According to Life Natural concepts, using oil in cooking should be strictly avoided. You might have noticed that oil is given as one of the ingredients in most of the millet recipes. I have used it only for the easy understanding of the beginners. Those who are practising Life Natural, please follow the recipe without oil.
  • This recipe is based on our own trial. As the result was good, we would like to share it with others too. According to Life natural principles, we are supposed to chew every bite of food. Instead of making ‘Kali’, where there is no chance to bite, we find this method is more suitable.
