Finger (Ragi) millet roti

Finger (Ragi) millet roti
Finger (Ragi) millet roti
Ingredients: (makes 3 to 4 rotis)
  1. Finger millet flour – 1 cup (200 grams)
  2. Water – 3/4 cup (150 ml)
  3. Onion – 1/4 cup
  4. Coconut – 2 teaspoons (cut into small pieces)
  5. Curry leaves - 2 teaspoons
  6. Rock salt – 2 pinches (as per taste)
  7. Oil – 2 teaspoons

Method:
  1. Take Finger millet flour in a bowl. Add chopped onions, chopped Curry leaves, Coconut pieces and salt. Pour water in it, mix very well and ensure there are no lumps. Cover this batter with lid and let it rest for minimum 30 minutes.
  2. Place a griddle / Dosa tawa on stove. When it becomes hot, take a ladle full of batter and pour it on the griddle. Using fingers, slightly spread the batter wherever it looks thicker.
  3. Cover it with a lid and cook for 2 to 3 minutes. Sprinkle few drops of oil on the top and the sides. Flip the Roti and cook the other side also.
  4. When the brown spots appear on both the sides, remove it from the griddle.
  5. Serve hot.
Note:
  • This is a very usual & simple way of making roti with Finger millet flour at home. The only point to remember is that the batter should neither become too watery nor too thick.
  • I do not add green chillies as it is too hot for us.  If you want, you can add that too in the batter.
  • You can eat this roti with any chutney of your choice, Jaggery powder or any spicy gravy.
